Rockstar Games Unveils Updated Modding Guidelines in Anticipation of GTA 6 Launch

Rockstar Games has recently clarified its modding policy ahead of the highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto 6. Historically, the company has had a tense relationship with the modding community but appears to be more lenient following the success of the GTA 5 role-playing community. They acquired FiveM and partnered with popular RP server NoPixel, indicating a trend towards collaboration rather than censorship.

Key points from Rockstar’s policy include:

  1. Prohibited Content: Mods cannot use others’ intellectual property, include pornography, promote bullying, or endorse violent extremism.
  2. No Commercialization: Unauthorized commercialization of mods is explicitly forbidden, meaning players can’t exchange real money in mods or use them for gambling, nor promote third-party sponsored content.
  3. No New Platforms: Mods cannot make Rockstar’s games available on unapproved platforms or incorporate assets from other games.

The policy seems aimed at preventing influencers from creating monetized GTA 6 servers, contradicting claims made by figures like Adin Ross, who suggested players might earn real money through a GTA 6 server.

While GTA 6 won’t be available on PC at launch, there’s speculation about a potential PC release within a year, given the game’s expected popularity. Until then, modding opportunities will likely remain restricted as Rockstar maintains oversight.
