Wrexham’s Historic Pub Acquired by Celebrity Co-Owners
The Turf, a well-known pub adjacent to Wrexham’s Racecourse stadium and featured in the acclaimed series “Welcome to Wrexham,” has been purchased by the club’s celebrity co-owners, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. This acquisition is seen as part of their strategy to safeguard the club’s future and protect vital areas connected to its history.
The Turf, originally named the Turf Hotel, is significant as it is where Wrexham AFC was founded in 1864. The pub has played a central role in the ongoing docuseries, contributing to Wrexham’s global popularity.
In a statement, Wrexham’s ownership highlighted that the deal preserves the pub’s rich history and traditions, linking it firmly with the club and stadium. Reynolds and McElhenney have frequently appeared at The Turf, engaging with various stars, including Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd, and even Prince William, who once poured a pint there.
Wayne Jones, The Turf’s landlord, known for his appearances on the show, will continue to manage the pub, expressing his excitement to blend its historical charm with the energy of Hollywood for future generations of fans and locals.
