Mozambican President Daniel Chapo has invited Brazilian investors to engage in developing Mozambique’s oil and gas sector at the Rio Oil & Gas 2026 Forum. He emphasized the importance of partnerships that enhance industrialization, technology transfer, workforce training, and support for local companies.
Chapo showcased Mozambique’s significant energy potential, estimating about 180 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, with 133 trillion cubic feet recoverable. He noted this potential, along with resources in hydroelectric, solar, and wind energy, could diversify the country’s energy mix and stimulate economic growth.
He referred to major investments in the Rovuma Basin, including Coral Sul and Mozambique LNG, totaling around 50 billion USD. However, he stressed the government’s broader aim: linking energy resources to industrialization, agriculture, and job creation, ensuring more value remains within the national economy.
Chapo also advocated for balanced energy transitions, asserting that reducing reliance on fossil fuels shouldn’t compromise the energy needs of developing nations. He announced plans for new hydrocarbon exploration licenses, supported by improved geological data and a modern regulatory framework to attract investors. The recent approval of a new Petroleum Law aims to ensure legal stability and safeguard national interests.
