Cave Junction, Oregon, has entered an agreement with Pacific Power to upgrade 98 streetlights from older high-pressure sodium and mercury-vapor fixtures to LED fixtures that comply with 3000K Dark Sky standards. The project is estimated to cost $19,780, with expected incentives totaling $17,442.60 from the Energy Trust, reducing the city’s final expenditure to $2,337.40.
Pacific Power will submit the project details to the Energy Trust, which will then provide a separate agreement for funding incentives. Initially, the city will cover the full cost from the Street Improvement Fund, but it is anticipated that reimbursement will occur four to six weeks post-completion.
This conversion is projected to save the city approximately $3,362.64 annually in electricity costs, allowing for a quick recovery of the project expenses within the first year. However, the final costs and reimbursements may vary based on actual work completed and qualifying fixtures.
