Carnegie Hall Hosts Tibetan Monks for Cultural Ceremony in Lewisburg, W.Va.
LEWISBURG, W.Va. (WVVA) – Carnegie Hall in Lewisburg is welcoming Tibetan monks this week for a unique cultural ceremony. The event aims to promote cultural awareness through various activities, including sand painting.
Mary Leb, the performance director, highlighted the hall’s commitment to diversity and cultural experiences. This year, the monks from the Drepung Loseling Monastery are creating a mandala, an intricate design that carries special significance.
Monk Tsewang emphasized the message of interdependence conveyed through this art form, noting how countless sand particles come together to form a cohesive design. He explained that realizing our interconnectedness fosters values like love, compassion, and kindness.
Carnegie Hall considers these events essential for exposing the local community to experiences they might not encounter in rural West Virginia.
The monks will continue their sand painting until September 26, culminating in a closing ceremony where the mandala will be dismantled. Attendees are encouraged to participate in this meaningful conclusion of the week’s activities.
