VMCVM Pet Highlight: Marble | Virginia Tech News

Meet Marble, the Fabulous Calico Cat!

What’s your name & do you think it’s as awesome as you are?
Marble! It’s the best name ever for my calico self!

Who is your human and what is their role at the veterinary college?
Charlotte is a third-year veterinary student.

What kind of critter are you, and what makes your breed (or mix) totally pawsome?
I’m a dilute calico; my fancy coloring makes me pawsome, and so does the fact that only girl cats can be calico!

How many candles are on your birthday cake this year — or are you keeping that a secret?
I just turned 5.

Where did you find your human, and what made you pick them?
I used to live with my kittens in another vet student’s house. The house was getting a little crowded, but fortunately, Charlotte pet-sat me one day, was smitten, and adopted me.

How would you describe yourself: a snugglebug, a wild child, or the boss of the house?
A snugglebug for sure! Purring takes up 90 percent of my day and I love to find the most inconvenient times to sit on my parents.

What’s your signature move to get attention?
I love to “popcorn” a.k.a. jump straight in the air then sprint to the other end of the hall. It gets me attention every single time.

Do you have a favorite toy that you’d fight a dragon to keep?
Mega Rainbow Shrimp is my number one toy; no one can take him away from me once I get my toe beans in him.

What’s your go-to snack, and how do you convince your human to hand it over?
Tuna Churu never stands a chance against me. I also get shreds of cheese on taco night. Acting human and sitting at the dinner table usually convinces them to hand something over.

What’s the most epic adventure you’ve had with your human?
Charlotte got me a little harness, and we’ve been exploring the backyard.

What’s something you did that left your human totally speechless — good or bad?
I like to sit in the Christmas cactus despite having tons of other comfy beds.

What’s your best “I’m too cute to handle” pose for the camera?
Probably rolling up into a little fox ball. Or a loaf. Or just existing as I am.

Describe a day in your fabulous life. Do you work hard or hardly work?
I wake my humans up every morning at 6 a.m. by purring in their face and sitting on them. Then it’s time for some zoomies, an eight-hour nap, and begging for dinner.

Do you have any rituals with your human, like belly rub o’clock or snack time at sundown?
At mealtime, I always try to charm a second meal out of whoever didn’t feed me that hour.

What’s your relationship status with other animals?
I have a little sister, Tony Pizza, who I love dearly but whom I must tackle every night at least once.

Do you have any party tricks that wow the crowd?
I can sit and do a spin, but only if treats are involved.

If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
Generating Churu whenever I desired.

What’s one thing your human should learn from you?
Naps are never a bad idea.

What’s the best thing about being your human’s sidekick?
I get to contribute to vet student learning! I’ve been in a cardiology study, was spayed by a second year, and Charlotte practices her clinical skills on me a lot.
