Eumir Marcial will not participate in the 2026 Asian Games, as confirmed by the president of the Association of Boxing Alliances of the Philippines, Marcus Manalo. This decision follows Marcial’s recent third-round knockout victory over Omar Huerte in a professional bout.
Manalo explained that after discussing the matter with Marcial post-fight, they agreed it would be challenging for him to transition from a professional match in the US to another high-level competition in Nagoya, considering the significant time difference and short recovery period. Manalo emphasized the physical demands of boxing and the importance of proper rest and recovery to ensure Marcial’s health and safety.
Despite looking forward to representing the Philippines, Marcial’s well-being was given priority. Manalo reiterated that being an athlete is about making responsible choices for long-term health and performance. Marcial previously secured a silver medal at the 2022 Asian Games and a bronze in 2018. He is also anticipated to compete in the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in December.
