A dedicated fan-made expansion for Baldur’s Gate 3 launches following nearly two years of development.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has enjoyed widespread acclaim, but some players have noted that its second act feels limited in environmental diversity. For those seeking an escape from the dreary Shadow-Cursed Lands, a new mod called Baldur’s Gate 3: Act Two Expansion offers an exciting alternative.

This ambitious mod, developed over almost two years by SquallyDaBeanz, introduces an entirely new area known as The Chionthar Wilds, reminiscent of the expansive exploration found in Act 1. After completing the Shadow-Cursed Lands storyline, players can either venture into this new zone with a party around level 8 or utilize a quickstart feature for immediate access, complete with character customization options.

The Chionthar Wilds includes more than 30 new combat encounters and over 70 items, along with fresh quests, NPCs, and cutscenes. To maintain balance, experience points are “artificially reduced” in this area, ensuring that the new content doesn’t trivialize the challenges in Act 3.

While the new characters lack voice acting and some mechanics from the original game don’t translate (like communication with the dead or animals), the mod embraces a classic CRPG expansion style, allowing players to immerse themselves fully.

For those looking to further enhance their Baldur’s Gate 3 experience, a list of the best mods is available to explore and customize gameplay to your liking.
