A Yorkipoo named Smokey brought his unique blend of humor, love, and healing to a Wooster family just when they needed it most.

Smokey lives with Victoria Toney, her husband Corey, and their son Jacorey. He joined the family after they lost another beloved canine companion and while Corey was recovering from serious health issues.

A few years ago, the Toneys lost Bodacious, their Cane Corso. His passing was deeply felt. “He is still dearly missed,” Victoria shared.

In January 2025, Corey underwent surgery for a brain hemorrhage. As they faced a stressful recovery, the Toneys decided to welcome a puppy into their lives. Smokey, now 1.5 years old, came from a breeder in March 2025 and has since provided comfort and joy.

“From the day I brought Smokey home, they have been inseparable,” Victoria said. She noted that Smokey helped Corey manage his stress and anxiety, stating, “He gave us another reason to smile.”

Smokey’s personality is a delightful mix of love, humor, and entertainment. Victoria, who didn’t grow up with pets, remarked, “I didn’t understand how big a dog’s personality can be.” Smokey is playful but a bit possessive of his toys, resembling an only child who craves attention.

One of Corey’s favorite activities is teaching Smokey how to “box,” drawing from his passion for the sport. Smokey has even accompanied the family on road trips and recently flew on an airplane for the first time, maintaining a calm presence in public.

Jacorey, a sophomore at Greenbrier High School, enjoys playing chase with Smokey. Smokey also bonds with his human grandparents, being spoiled and showered with love by the entire family.

Victoria, who is a senior brand manager at AARP, and Corey, a vice president at HCC Pumping, have found solace in Smokey. “Smokey hates when we are not home,” Victoria said, describing how he waits by their shoes in the laundry room.

For the Toneys, Smokey has become an essential part of their home, symbolizing healing and joy in their lives. Smokey’s presence is a reason for the family to always look forward to returning home.
