Puripol Boonson of Thailand triumphed in the men’s 100-meter sprint at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, clocking a record-breaking time of 9.90 seconds. The 20-year-old initially set a record in the semifinals with a time of 9.91 seconds, before improving in the final at Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium.
Despite a slow start compared to some competitors, Boonson’s consistent pace led him to victory, marking the second-fastest time for an Asian sprinter. “I am so excited for this competition. Right now, I am so happy,” Boonson expressed, reflecting on his journey after finishing second in the previous games in Hangzhou, China.
He noted the importance of patience and determination in achieving his dream. After a debut at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where he placed 21st, Boonson is now focused on medaling in future world championships and Olympic events.
On the podium alongside him were Oman’s Ali Al Balushi with a time of 10.04 seconds and Malham Al Balushi at 10.11 seconds.
In the women’s 100-meter event, China’s Chen Yujie set a games record with a time of 11.06 seconds, while Singapore’s Shanti Pereira and Bahrain’s Edidiong Odiong secured second and third places, finishing in 11.21 and 11.33 seconds, respectively.
