Pet Network Humane Society Investigates Fraudulent Activity
INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. – In an emergency session earlier this week, the Board of Directors of Pet Network Humane Society addressed serious concerns regarding fraudulent bookkeeping and missing funds.
The investigation was prompted by a discrepancy noted by the IRS, leading to a deeper examination of the organization’s financial practices. Initial findings indicate potential fraudulent activities involving the falsification of records and irregularities, resulting in an estimated $2.5 million in losses over several years.
The board has determined that the fraudulent actions are isolated to one employee, who has since been terminated. They have expressed unwavering support for Executive Director Simi Balter, asserting that she had no prior knowledge of any wrongdoing.
Legal actions are being pursued to recover funds, and stringent new protocols will be established alongside an independent third-party review to prevent future issues.
Despite these challenges, Pet Network remains operational and committed to its mission of supporting animal welfare and veterinary care.
