Duke Energy Brings Nearly 300-Foot Replica of Vietnam Veterans Memorial to Hummel Park
PLAINFIELD, Ind. – A poignant tribute to the over 58,000 U.S. service members who perished in the Vietnam War will be available to visitors in Plainfield starting tomorrow. This offers Hoosiers a unique opportunity to experience a national memorial close to home. Duke Energy is facilitating the installation of The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall® at Hummel Park from Friday, Sept. 18, through Monday, Sept. 21.
Why It Matters
For many families, veterans, and community members, The Traveling Wall serves as a space to remember, reflect, and honor those whose names are commemorated on it without the need to travel to Washington, D.C.
- The wall is a three-fifths scale of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. It is constructed from aluminum, stands 6 feet tall at its center, and extends nearly 300 feet in length.
- It honors more than 58,000 members of the U.S. military who lost their lives while serving in Vietnam.

- The Charleston Pavilion at Hummel Park, located at 5373 S. C.R. 700 E. in Plainfield, will host The Traveling Wall during its visit.

- Entrance to the memorial is free and open to the public.
Congressman Baird on The Traveling Wall
“For Vietnam veterans and Gold Star families, The Traveling Wall is deeply personal,” remarked U.S. Rep. Jim Baird, a decorated Vietnam War veteran. “Every name represents a story of service, sacrifice, and love of country. Bringing this memorial to Plainfield gives Hoosiers a meaningful chance to honor those who never returned home.”
Wall Visit During Plainfield’s Annual Quaker Days Celebration
Town Council President Robin Brandgard commented, “Quaker Days is about community, and having The Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall here provides a chance to unite for something deeply meaningful—honoring the men and women who served our country.”
