Letter to the Editor: Newtown’s 2026 Restaurant and Business Appreciation Week

One of the core functions of Newtown’s Economic and Community Development is to connect local customers with our vibrant small businesses. This year, we are excited to relaunch a public promotion with a broader focus.
Newtown’s 2026 Restaurant and Business Appreciation Week is set for October 16-25, kicking off with a “Sip and Savor” event at the Newtown Community Center on the evening of October 15.
While previous promotions focused exclusively on restaurants, our department aims to leverage the traffic generated by these establishments to promote other local businesses. Every patron at participating restaurants will gain access to our free online Newtown-exclusive Business Directory at newtown.org, helping local businesses attract more customers.
Currently, we have hundreds of businesses listed, but we want to include even more. Any business not yet on the directory has a few weeks to sign up for this free service. The process only takes a few minutes, and we aim to review and approve listings within 24-48 hours.
In addition to supporting local businesses, this week will also address food insecurity through our “Sip & Savor” event, where local eateries will compete for the titles of Best Appetizer and Best Cocktail/Mocktail. Attendees will enjoy samples, live music, and raffles, with $5 from each ticket going to Newtown’s Real Food CT to combat hunger in our community.
I hope our residents will help spread the word about the free business directory and that they will visit our participating eateries between October 16-25. I also encourage everyone to join us at the Sip & Savor event on October 15 to support Real Food CT.
