Peskov Attributes Fuel Shortages to Ukraine and Sanctions During Energy Ceasefire Negotiations — UNITED24 Media

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov expressed that while Moscow appreciates US President Donald Trump’s proposal for a mutual “energy truce,” merely halting attacks on oil refineries will not adequately address global energy shortages. Peskov stated that achieving stability requires handling the transportation of petroleum products to global markets, attributing maritime trade disruptions to Ukraine. He urged the removal of Western sanctions on Russian energy exports to help reduce global fuel prices.

Peskov claimed that while a ceasefire on infrastructure attacks might stabilize Russia’s fuel market, Russia is already taking steps to secure its energy facilities. Consequently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed that Ukraine would suspend attacks on Russian energy sites if international partners guarantee that Russia would similarly cease targeting Ukrainian facilities. However, Ukrainian leadership remains wary of Moscow’s intentions, suspecting it may exploit any ceasefire for short-term benefits rather than fostering long-term peace.
