Noah Wyle Takes Home an Emmy for Portraying One of Television’s Most Notable Jewish Doctors

Noah Wyle received his second consecutive Emmy for his role as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch on HBO Max’s “The Pitt,” where he also serves as a writer and producer. His portrayal of a Jewish character has resonated with audiences, particularly through poignant moments like reciting the Shema in a vulnerable scene. This year, he won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, contributing to “The Pitt’s” Outstanding Drama Series win.

Wyle’s acceptance speech reflected on his lifelong dedication to acting. The show has tackled significant themes, including the impact of the 2018 Tree of Life synagogue shooting on the Jewish community, which Wyle explored in an episode he wrote.

In addition to Wyle’s recognition, Saul Metzstein won for Outstanding Directing for “Slow Horses.” However, many other Jewish nominees did not secure wins, highlighting a mixed night for Jewish representation at the Emmys. Notably, Rob Reiner received a posthumous Emmy for his role on “The Bear,” awarded earlier at the Creative Arts Emmys.

The ceremony underscored the importance of Jewish narratives in television, alongside a call for continued support for independent Jewish journalism.
