New York Prosecutors Close Several Deepfake Porn Platforms Aiming at Celebrities – The Mercury News

Manhattan prosecutors recently announced the shutdown and seizure of a dozen websites that unlawfully shared and sold AI-generated deepfake pornography featuring nearly 1,200 individuals, primarily women. This operation is deemed the largest of its kind targeting illegal deepfake content, highlighting the severe privacy violations and emotional toll it takes on its victims, including social media influencers, actors, and activists.

District Attorney Alvin Bragg emphasized that these actions are not tolerated, declaring such exploitation a crime in New York State, whether involving real or AI-generated images. Although no arrests were made during the operation, the investigation continues. The websites now display a notice indicating they have been seized, and Bragg has encouraged victims to come forward to seek help.
