By Laura Kearns and Jack Fifield

A pet chicken named Chicken Lickin made headlines after embarking on an unexpected journey. The adventurous hen went missing from her home in Chippenham, Cambridgeshire, and managed to hitch a ride on the back of a truck, traveling 73 miles to Lodge Farm Industrial Estate in Northampton.

After her escapade, she was discovered by warehouse staff who took her in, feeding her sweetcorn. They soon contacted Kingsthorpe Northampton Hen Rescue, which agreed to house her. Meanwhile, her owner, Rebecca Duffy, was actively searching for her beloved pet on social media.

To Rebecca’s surprise, within an hour of posting, a truck driver recognized Chicken Lickin’ and informed her of the hen’s whereabouts. After expressing her gratitude, Rebecca retrieved Chicken Lickin’ with a 146-mile round trip, which took them over three hours.

Rebecca joyfully recounted the experience, stating, “Chicken Lickin escaped the garden, hitched a ride on the back of a truck, hopped off in Northampton, and got fed at the warehouse like she was on shift. She then checked into Kingsthorpe for a full spa retreat.”

A spokesperson from Kingsthorpe Northampton Hen Rescue noted that the chicken was friendly and well-cared-for, highlighting the crucial role the truck drivers played in her safe return.

Chicken Lickin’ is home now, “with a full belly, lots of memories, and zero remorse,” says Rebecca.
