Warren Buffett Turns Apple into Berkshire Hathaway’s Top Stock Investment: A $10,000 Investment from a Decade Ago Would Now Be Approximately Worth $122,400.

Warren Buffett identified Apple’s potential in 2016 after witnessing a friend’s distress over a lost iPhone. This led him to make Apple Berkshire Hathaway’s top investment, which at one point constituted 40% of its stock portfolio. Although Berkshire has since sold some shares, Apple still represents 20% of its $360 billion stock portfolio. Had a retail investor put $10,000 into Apple shares a decade ago, it would now be worth about $122,400.

Buffett’s investment strategy often favors strong brands, and Apple stands out with its innovative products like the iPhone and Apple Watch. The company dominates the U.S. smartphone market with a 54% share, and has engaged in significant stock buybacks, approximately $755 billion from 2016 to 2025, which enhances shareholder value.

However, the future outlook for Apple involves challenges; growth rates may naturally decline as it matures, especially given its massive $4.9 trillion market cap. The new CEO, John Ternus, is expected to reinvigorate hardware innovation, and Apple’s position in emerging areas like artificial intelligence could present new opportunities. Despite not investing heavily in AI infrastructure, Apple aims to integrate AI technologies into its consumer devices, potentially solidifying its relevance in the tech landscape.
