‘Pawprints on the Lawn’ commemorates pets at Omaha cemetery

Omaha Event Honors Pets on National Pet Memorial Day

OMAHA, Neb. — Omaha pet owners gathered Sunday to remember their pets during National Pet Memorial Day.

The second annual “Pawprints on the Lawn” ceremony was held at the Forever Friends Pet Cemetery inside Forest Lawn Cemetery. The observance included an officiant, special readings, and tributes. People and pets of all species were welcome.

This year, the cemetery also introduced Guardian Field, a section dedicated to service animals from law enforcement agencies that died in the line of duty or after serving. “Guardian Field” honors the animals that worked alongside law enforcement and served their communities, cemetery director Brian Kruse said.

Kruse noted that Forever Friends is the only pet cemetery he knows of in the Omaha metro area.
