Jay Allen is a filmmaker and executive producer known for his work with SunnyBoy Entertainment, where he focuses on developing authentic, personal stories. Growing up in Charlotte, North Carolina, he earned the nickname “E.T.” from his classmates without knowing its reference. This early experience fostered his humorous and resilient nature, traits he applies in the competitive film industry.
Allen’s passion for film was ignited during his college years in Wilmington, North Carolina, when popular shows like Dawson’s Creek and One Tree Hill were filming nearby. He transitioned from corporate sales back into film, ultimately becoming the showrunner and executive producer of TV One’s autobiographical series Uncensored, where he interviewed beloved celebrities and explored the deeper narratives behind their public personas.
His work on Uncensored had a significant impact on him as he witnessed the card effects of honest storytelling. Episodes featuring celebrities like Tisha Campbell and Naturi Naughton showcased the profound outcomes of reconnecting with one’s roots and addressing unspoken issues.
At SunnyBoy, Allen aims to create more projects rooted in the authentic, diverse culture of the South, especially Atlanta, while developing narratives that challenge conventional storytelling methods. He envisions integrating immersive technology into storytelling, allowing audiences to engage with stories in innovative ways.
Inspired by his growth and the support of his girlfriend, Jessie Woo, Allen continues to pursue his dream of creating impactful narratives that reflect the real, messy parts of life, all while remaining rooted in the community that shaped him.
