Davis Claims Celebrity Title at River Bandits Home Run Derby | Hawarden Independent/Ireton Examiner

The annual River Bandits Home Run Derby took place at the Leo Anderson Softball Complex, with Tiffany Davis emerging as the celebrity champion amid a fun-filled evening of baseball and community spirit.

The event started with young sluggers, allowing participants of all ages to compete throughout the day. A highlight was the mystery celebrity hitters, with clues released ahead of time, revealing eleven of the twelve scheduled participants, which included individuals from various backgrounds, including former athletes and community leaders.

Young children enjoyed a whiffle ball home run derby, while older age divisions competed in baseball and softball. Participants were allowed to bring their own pitchers and bats, with concessions available. The event’s proceeds support the River Bandits teams and further development of the softball complex.

This year, the River Bandits program expanded to four teams, introducing new age divisions, including a 12U team and the first Lady River Bandits softball team. Coaches and volunteers work to provide local youth with valuable playing opportunities and skill development.

The evening concluded not only with Davis winning the celebrity title but also with a spectacular fireworks show presented by the Hawarden Chamber of Commerce, leaving a memorable impression on all attendees.
