Celebrity Cruises has achieved a significant milestone with the float out of the Celebrity Compass, marking the completion of its exterior construction and its entry into the water for the first time. This event took place at Zwijnenburg shipyard in Rotterdam, beginning on September 9, and the ship subsequently traveled 80 kilometers to TeamCo Shipyard in Heusden by river, arriving on September 12. The Celebrity Compass is set to debut in August 2027.
Laura Hodges Bethge, President of Celebrity Cruises, stated, “The float out of Celebrity Compass is a defining milestone as we bring our vision for Celebrity River Cruises to life.”
The new ship promises to incorporate many elements from the brand’s ocean cruises, featuring open decks for 360-degree views, an infinity-edge plunge pool, and industry-first Magic Edge cantilevered dining pods. It will offer five stateroom categories, all with king-sized beds and spacious balconies, alongside eight dining and bar options including popular choices like Martini Bar and Café Al Bacio.
Additionally, the Celebrity Compass will be equipped with an innovative hull design for better river navigation and hybrid propulsion technology aimed at minimizing noise and vibration. “With Celebrity Compass, we’re reimagining river cruising The Celebrity Way,” said Hodges Bethge, highlighting the blend of elevated design, exceptional hospitality, and enriched experiences for travelers.
