Bryan-College Station Fiestas Patrias Celebrates Mexican Culture

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – The Bryan-College Station Fiestas Patrias made a vibrant return to Downtown Bryan, celebrating Mexican culture and community. This event, a staple of the community for over 30 years, honors culture, community, and independence.

On parade day, the sidewalks were filled with spectators eager to watch the festivities unfold. Ashley Soto, a participant in the parade, expressed her pride in representing her culture, stating, “It means a lot to me because I get to represent my culture and just have fun with it.”

Following the parade, the festival continued with bustling streets filled with food trucks, local vendors, and live music.

Raul Yanez, a board member of Fiestas Patrias, noted that this year’s emphasis was on inclusivity among different cultures. “It’s a Mexican celebration of our independence, but we wanted to add all other cultures, all Latin American countries,” he explained.

Malory Espitia, a longtime attendee, appreciated the event for uniting neighbors. “I just love that everybody can honestly really just come and enjoy what’s going on around,” she said.

Adding a fresh perspective, first-time attendee Sonny Serna emphasized the importance of cultural pride, urging Hispanic individuals not to feel embarrassed about their heritage.

Fiestas Patrias is set to return to Downtown Bryan next year, promising another opportunity to celebrate and embrace cultural diversity.
