Bossier City Councilman Chris Smith has withdrawn a proposal for an Entertainment Development District (EDD) aimed at funding improvements in the East Bank, Boardwalk, and entertainment corridor. He stated that there were significant concerns from businesses and residents that needed to be addressed before proceeding.
The EDD was intended to create a revenue stream for infrastructure, events, and marketing to boost tourism and private investment. Smith acknowledged that supporters hadn’t effectively communicated the specific benefits of the additional tax, leading to public skepticism. He emphasized that any future attempts should start with a clear development plan and broad support from the community.
Despite withdrawing the proposal, Smith noted that the need for economic development in Bossier City persists, as the city aims to compete better with other communities for visitors and investments. The ultimate goal, he stated, is to strengthen Bossier City.
