An animated TV series adaptation of Blizzard Entertainment’s popular “Diablo” video game franchise is in development at Netflix.
“Diablo” is set in the dark world of Sanctuary, where humanity is caught in the eternal conflict between the High Heavens and the Burning Hells. Per Blizzard’s official description, the company is partnering with creative talent to expand the narratives of their universes beyond gaming, starting with this animated series.
The first “Diablo” game launched in 1996, marking the 30th anniversary of the franchise this year. The latest installment, “Diablo IV,” was released in 2023.
The series announcement was made by Blizzard president Johanna Faries during the opening ceremony of BlizzCon 2026. This event celebrates the breadth of Blizzard’s offerings, including titles like “World of Warcraft” and “Overwatch.”
Faries emphasized the importance of BlizzCon in highlighting Blizzard’s ongoing projects and mentioned that significant thought has gone into the timing of the series announcement.
