Train Services Between Boston and Providence Interrupted by Locomotive Fire and Police Operations

Two separate incidents disrupted train services between Boston and Providence on Wednesday afternoon.

First, an MBTA Commuter Rail train, originating from Wickford Junction, emitted smoke while stopped at Ruggles Station in Boston. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the train was subsequently taken out of service.

In a second incident, police activity south of Boston caused additional delays for trains on the same line. As a result, at least one Providence Line train was terminated at Attleboro, with affected passengers transferred to shuttle buses.

There is no immediate information regarding the police investigation, but both Amtrak and MBTA passengers should anticipate delays.
