Hideo Kojima’s new project, “Physint,” was initially launched as a PlayStation exclusive, reviving the “tactical espionage action” genre reminiscent of Metal Gear Solid. However, in June 2023, Sony attempted to cancel the project, prompting Kojima to seek a new partnership. He has since partnered with Microsoft, marking a significant change in direction.
Kojima stated on X that “Physint” is vital to his vision and that he and his team spent months looking for a suitable partner. Ultimately, he found shared goals with Xbox, committing that development will proceed regardless of the earlier attempt to halt it.
In an official statement, PlayStation acknowledged their decision to step away from the collaboration but expressed ongoing admiration for Kojima’s vision and a desire to maintain a strong relationship. Xbox’s Asha Sharma expressed excitement over the partnership, mentioning that their collaboration could extend beyond games into film and television.
The project is expected to be unconventional, blending gaming and cinematic elements, and though it currently lacks a release date, it was anticipated to launch within six years. Kojima’s previous work on “OD,” also an Xbox exclusive, hints at the innovative directions he might pursue in “Physint.”
