Japanese food companies are increasingly offering protein-rich options to cater to health-conscious consumers. There’s a growing awareness of protein’s importance for a healthy lifestyle, prompting new products like a ready-to-eat curry by House Foods, which contains 30 grams of protein, nearly half the daily recommended intake.
Maisen Fine Food has developed a product that lets consumers enhance the protein content of staples like rice by adding soy protein granules. Meiji has introduced a milk protein drink that is particularly popular among younger adults, and they’ve also launched a trial sugar- and fat-free coffee providing 10 grams of protein.
Research indicates that the Japanese protein supplement market is projected to reach ¥309.6 billion (approximately $2 billion) by 2025, nearly tripling from a decade ago. As health awareness continues to grow, food manufacturers are expected to increasingly focus on creating products that meet these consumer needs.
