The Duke Energy Foundation is investing $180,000 in workforce training across nine technical colleges in South Carolina, including Williamsburg Technical College and Florence-Darlington Technical College. Each of these institutions will receive $20,000 to enhance construction-related training, focusing on hands-on learning and industry certifications in high-demand areas. The funding aims to provide essential tools and materials, particularly for programs in welding and electrical skills.
Duke Energy emphasizes that these grants are crucial for developing a skilled workforce necessary for accommodating population growth and economic developments, like the construction of a new natural gas facility in Anderson County, which is expected to create many job opportunities.
Other institutions receiving grants include Central Carolina Technical College, Spartanburg Community College, and more. Florence-Darlington Tech will specifically channel its funding into its electrician program to help meet workforce demands, while Greenville Technical College will enhance its welding education.
These grants are part of Duke Energy’s broader commitment to workforce development, having invested $5.4 million since 2016 in similar programs across South Carolina. The Duke Energy Foundation allocates over $30 million yearly in philanthropic efforts within the communities served by the company.
