Billy Joel recently revealed he underwent brain surgery to address a neurological issue that had affected him since last year. During an interview on SiriusXM’s The Billy Joel Channel, he discussed his diagnosis of normal pressure hydrocephalus in 2025 and the recommendation for a shunt implant.
Initially hesitant, Joel, 77, later decided to go through with the surgery after learning it could improve his balance and memory. He described his symptoms as a “rocking motion” similar to being on a boat, linking it to potential damage caused by his career as a musician and the loud concerts he performed.
Having concluded his record-setting residency at Madison Square Garden in July 2024, Joel canceled his 2025 concert dates following his diagnosis. He is now focusing on physical therapy and managing stress levels, reassuring fans that he is doing well and not going anywhere. The Billy Joel Channel is available on SiriusXM until October 1.
