Air Traffic Control Issue in the UK Causes Flight Cancellations
LONDON – On Tuesday, over 400 flights in the UK faced cancellations due to a technical issue within Britain’s air traffic control system, as reported by flight monitoring website, Flightradar24.
Britain’s National Air Traffic Services confirmed a problem in their flight processing system and indicated that engineers were working swiftly to resolve the issue, which had widespread effects on flights across the UK. An update from the agency noted that a fix had been implemented and that the flight system was beginning to recover.
Approximately 425 flights to and from UK airports, including major hubs like Heathrow, were canceled. This disruption impacted several airlines, including British Airways, EasyJet, KLM, and Lufthansa.
Airports such as Stansted, City in London, and others in Manchester, Birmingham, and Scotland reported significant disruptions. Passengers were advised to verify their flight status with their respective airlines.
Budget airline EasyJet acknowledged that some of its flights were “unable to operate” due to the system failure and noted that the issue also caused delays across Europe.
Passengers expressed frustration on social media about being stuck on the tarmac for extended periods and criticized the lack of communication from airlines regarding the situation. According to Heathrow’s website, a notable number of short-haul flights to European destinations were canceled or delayed, while arriving flights were reportedly unaffected.
