Norwa Plants, a third-generation family horticulture business from Poland, has evolved into a sophisticated tissue culture producer. With a laboratory and R&D capabilities backed by EU research projects, the company is now a key player in producing ornamental perennials, grasses, soft fruit, and food crops for growers across Europe.
Strategic Shift
In recent years, rising operational costs in European greenhouses have led many nurseries to seek cost-effective solutions, often turning to Asian suppliers. However, this creates challenges such as longer transport routes and reduced flexibility. In response, Norwa Plants opened Vitro Plants in Ukraine, closer to its primary market, to expand production capacity while maintaining proximity to European customers.

Vitro Plants: A Growing Laboratory
Founded in western Ukraine near Lviv in September 2024, Vitro Plants has rapidly expanded to a team of 25 and has produced over one million plants within two years. With ongoing expansions planned, including a new media preparation department, it exemplifies the potential of regional production.
Having laboratories in both Poland and Ukraine allows for risk mitigation and flexible order management without complicating communication for growers.
Cross-Border Collaboration
The logistics of moving plant material across borders have been thoroughly planned, incorporating customs and phytosanitary checks. The laboratory in Ukraine, strategically located near an essential electricity line, has managed to maintain operations effectively, even amidst wartime challenges.

Norwa Plants not only benefits from business dynamics but also from the shared cultural and communicative backgrounds between Poland and Ukraine. Many Ukrainian workers trained in Poland are now returning home to continue their professions, fostering knowledge and skills exchange.
