Lancaster Studies Converting Orange and King Streets to Two-Way Travel
LANCASTER, Pa. — Lancaster is considering a plan to transform Orange and King streets into two-way roads to enhance safety and reduce traffic speed.
A recent study presented to the traffic commission identified these streets as the most suitable options for two-way travel among the city’s key routes.
Cindy McCormick, Deputy Director of the Department of Public Works, noted, “These streets seem to have the least amount of impact… on safety and other goals, like preserving parking.”
Next steps include finalizing the design, coordination with PennDOT, and public engagement, with three open houses planned for later this year. Construction on Orange Street is anticipated to start in 2028, followed by King Street in 2029.
