Young Thug was arrested in May 2022 and charged with being the co-founder of a violent street gang, Young Slime Life (YSL), and for using his music to promote gang activity. Following a lengthy pre-trial process, his trial began in November 2023 while he remained incarcerated awaiting the verdict. In a show of support, Drake released the song “It’s Up,” featuring the poignant lines:
“I can’t sleep at night with Thug at Cobb County Corrections
I think he did enough reflectin’, I think my brother learned his lesson.”
Drake and Young Thug’s partnership dates back to 2017, when Thug contributed to Drake’s track “Sacrifices” from the project More Life, and they have collaborated on various projects since.
