Consumers Energy Extends Deadline for Dam Sale Decision
JACKSON, Mich. (WNEM) — Consumers Energy has decided to extend the deadline for regulators to evaluate the proposed sale of 13 hydroelectric dams in Michigan. The company is voluntarily pushing back the timeline by 60 days, moving the Michigan Public Service Commission’s decision deadline into November.
Consumers Energy plans to sell the dams to Confluence Hydro but intends to buy back the power generated by these facilities for the next 30 years. The company believes this approach is the most cost-effective for customers while ensuring the maintenance of the dams and reservoirs for future use.
