Introduction
Hi everyone, my name is Emanvel, and I represent PixelDhara. This asset was created by our artist, Avichal Verma. With around eight years of industry experience, Avichal views gaming as more than just a profession; it’s a passion that began with a love for video games.
Growing up playing games and eventually stepping into the industry has been incredibly rewarding for us. For this project, we aimed to forge a strong connection to Indian culture and history, which led us to the concept of creating a traditional Bioscope.
The Bioscope carries a unique nostalgic charm, linking many in India to their childhood memories and a bygone era of entertainment. This made it a fascinating subject for us to recreate as a lifelike 3D asset.
Our goal was to design the final piece to feel like a genuine, timeworn object with a history, rather than something freshly manufactured. This idea became the backbone of the project, with storytelling through intricate details being a major focus. Features like worn paint, scratches, aged wood, exposed metal, subtle imperfections, and dust were all incorporated to imbue the Bioscope with a sense of history.
This project also allowed us to delve into realistic modeling, texturing, material creation, and environment presentation, while integrating elements of Indian cultural history into our game-art workflow.

The first step in our process was gathering references. Given the Bioscope’s deep cultural roots in India, it was crucial to understand its design, construction, and usage. We collected references for its overall shape, mechanical components, wooden structures, metal parts, chains, tapes, surface materials, and signs of wear and aging.
Our research went beyond just the visual aspects; understanding how and why different parts naturally age over time was equally important. For instance, areas frequently touched would develop more scratches and wear, while protected areas would remain cleaner.
This comprehensive approach helped us ensure the aging process felt authentic rather than artificially applied.
