RetrievAir, a pet-friendly airline, has begun offering flights from MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma to various locations across the U.S. This airline allows pet owners to travel alongside their cats or dogs, regardless of size. Flights are available to 11 major cities, including Boston, Chicago, Washington, D.C., and several southern destinations like Fort Lauderdale, Atlanta, and Dallas.
While this service caters to pet owners, the prices are steep; for example, a round-trip for an adult and a pet to Bedford, Massachusetts, can exceed $3,600. RetrievAir, described as a “pet-first public charter operator,” has raised concerns among nearby residents about potential increases in commercial flights and larger planes. MacArthur Airport already accommodates several other airlines, such as JetBlue and Southwest.
