The Labor Day holiday saw a significant influx of travelers at Orlando International Airport (OIA), with about 841,000 passengers expected from Thursday to Tuesday. This included 155,000 on Labor Day alone, despite a small drop compared to the previous year’s figures.
The increase in travelers comes amid rising flight costs, reportedly up nearly 20% for top domestic destinations, including Orlando. The airport remained relatively efficient, averaging only 15-minute delays, in contrast to Miami International Airport, which experienced severe delays following a fatal incident that forced rerouted flights.
Travelers still flocked to popular attractions like Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando. Individual travelers shared their experiences, with some planning around the increased costs and busy crowds. Among them, Jay Rowe, who had changed her flight plans due to the Miami crash, noted the rising airline prices were a significant factor in her travel considerations.
Overall, despite challenges posed by higher prices and recent aviation incidents, many travelers continued to prioritize their trips to Orlando, reflecting the city’s ongoing popularity as a vacation destination.
