King Charles III addresses the situation of Prince Harry and Meghan following their return to the UK.

King Charles III has confirmed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will remain non-working members of the royal family following their recent visit to the UK. A letter from the King, sent through the Lord Chamberlain to senior government officials, reiterated that the couple will not use their royal titles and that any charity work they do will be in a private capacity.

The letter aims to clarify the couple’s status, amid concerns that they might be perceived as operating a parallel royal court. The issue of their security is particularly contentious, as Harry has sought government support for police protection since stepping back from royal duties in 2020. Any decisions regarding their security will fall under the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC).

The Lord Chamberlain’s letter also directs official inquiries regarding protocols and public funding for the couple to Buckingham Palace.
