Drew Brees Hosts Celebrity Pickleball Tournament at Del Mar Wine & Food Festival

Drew Brees, the legendary NFL Hall of Fame quarterback, is set to host his Celebrity Pickleball Tournament on Friday, Oct. 2, as part of the Del Mar Wine & Food Festival. This exciting event will bring together athletes, chefs, and supporters of hunger relief for an afternoon of pickleball, supporting Feeding San Diego.

Event Highlights

The tournament will feature a star-studded lineup, including:

  • Drew Brees
  • James Blake (former world No. 4 tennis pro)
  • Brett Tomko and Eric Byrnes (former MLB players)
  • Jeff Garcia (former NFL quarterback)
  • Miles Doughty (Slightly Stoopid frontman)

Attendees can team up with these celebrities in a friendly round-robin competition or compete in advanced and intermediate tournament divisions for a chance to win prize money. For those seeking a more relaxed experience, there’s the option to play casually.

Spectator tickets allow fans to enjoy food and drinks served courtside while watching the matches. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Surf Sports Park.

Supporting a Good Cause

Since its inception in 2023, the Del Mar Wine & Food Festival has raised over $100,000 for Feeding San Diego and other local nonprofits. Feeding San Diego provides over 36.3 million meals annually to those facing food insecurity through a vast network of charities, schools, and food pantries.

Ali Colbran, senior director of development at Feeding San Diego, expressed gratitude for the event’s success and the importance of food access, stating:

“The culinary community is interwoven with our cause because we all agree that access to nutritious food is a basic human right.”

Ticket Information

Tickets for the tournament range from $125 to $600 per person, depending on the level of play, and include food and beverage from sponsors like Justin Vineyards & Winery and Stone Brewing.

In the evening, a special “Spotlight on Baja” dinner benefiting Feeding San Diego will take place from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at a private estate in Rancho Santa Fe, featuring celebrated chefs from Baja California. Tickets for this dinner are $400.
