Labor Day Travel and Gas Prices
NORTH HAVEN, Conn. (WFSB) – Over 45 million Americans are on the move this Labor Day, according to AAA, but many face record-high gas prices.
- National Average: $4.15 per gallon
- Connecticut Average: $4.33 per gallon, the highest in New England and surpassing prices in New York and New Jersey.
The spike in prices follows recent military conflicts between the U.S. and Iran, affecting oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping route for one-fifth of the world’s oil supply.
In contrast, gas prices were under $3.20 per gallon last Labor Day and below $3.50 two years prior.
Traveler Reactions to Rising Costs
Despite the higher prices, travel numbers set a record this Labor Day.

Some gas stations in Connecticut are still offering prices below $4 per gallon, with the lowest reported at $3.89 at locations in Meriden and East Haven, according to GasBuddy.
