U.S. Limits Official Travel to Nogales, Sonora Due to Undefined Risk

The U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Mexico have imposed restrictions on U.S. government activities in Nogales, Sonora, due to unspecified threat information. The U.S. Consulate General in Nogales announced that travel is limited to essential movement during daylight hours only.

Sonora’s State Security Board reached out to U.S. consular officials after the alert was issued but did not elaborate on any specific threat. They reported no concrete risk to public safety but will continue preventive security operations in the area.

Officials reminded Americans that Sonora is designated as a Level 3 “Reconsider Travel” area and advised residents and visitors to exercise caution, seek shelter if necessary, inform family of their safety, follow local law enforcement instructions, and stay updated through local media. Congressman Andy Biggs urged U.S. citizens in or near Nogales to heed the government’s guidance and expressed concern for their safety.
