Taiwan’s Minister of Culture, Li Yuan, embarked on a European tour starting with the United Kingdom on September 7, marking the first official visit by a Taiwanese culture minister to Britain. This trip will also include France, where Li will attend the Taiwan-France Cultural Award events.
Li aims to showcase Taiwan’s cultural diversity and invite European counterparts and cultural figures for exchanges aimed at enhancing partnerships.
During his visit to London, he explored the Barbican Centre and Young V&A museum to learn from Britain’s experience with technology-driven arts programs. These insights are particularly relevant as Taiwan progresses on various cultural infrastructure projects, including the National Children’s Future Museum and the National Railway Museum.
Li praised the Barbican Centre for its integration of art, nature, and community spaces, and he emphasized the importance of ecological planning in urban cultural sites. At Young V&A, he admired the participatory redesign approach and expressed hopes for a similar strategy in Taiwan’s future children’s museum.
Li’s trip will last five days in the UK, concluding with a return to Taiwan on September 16 after visiting France.
