LEOMINSTER — Local pet owners can register for Second Chance Animal Services’ upcoming low-cost pet vaccine clinic on Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Leominster Veterans’ Center, located at 37 Carter St.

This event honors the late Jeffrey Stephens, co-founder of the Fitchburg vaccine clinic series established in 2011, and is organized in collaboration with Be PAWsitive Therapy Pets and Friends of Fitchburg DOGS Inc.
Importance of Vaccination
Second Chance aims to make veterinary care accessible to all pet owners. Vaccines protect pets from preventable diseases, aiding in their longevity and health. An estimated 30% of pet owners face challenges in obtaining preventive care, leaving many pets vulnerable to serious illnesses like rabies and parvovirus, which affects dogs and panleukopenia affecting cats.
Parvovirus is highly contagious and particularly fatal for young or unvaccinated dogs, while cats are at risk from similar diseases. Vaccination helps reduce disease spread, promoting overall community pet health.
Microchipping is also crucial; it provides a reliable identification method for pets that may become lost, significantly increasing the chances of them being reunited with their families.
