Mexican Fiestas Celebration Makes Its Return to Downtown Bryan

Fiestas Mexicanas Celebrates Community and Culture in Downtown Bryan

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Downtown Bryan recently hosted a vibrant parade and festival to honor Mexican traditions and history. This year marked the 30th anniversary of Fiestas Mexicanas, attracting approximately 10,000 attendees.

Visitors enjoyed live music, diverse food trucks, and various vendors, with street closures from 21st to 23rd Street enhancing the festive atmosphere. Event organizer Alma Villarreal expressed her joy at the community’s unity during the celebration.

“I love it. Look at all the cars, the people, all the booths, and all the ladies dressed in their attire,” Villarreal said. “We come together as a community, not only Hispanics but of all races.”

In addition to the festivities, Fiestas Mexicanas is a non-profit organization committed to giving back to the community through scholarship programs. This year, Maleah Aldape, a senior at Bryan High School, expressed her gratitude for receiving a scholarship, noting its significance for her family amid rising tuition costs.

“It means a lot to me. It’s just a way that Fiestas Mexicanas help my family out pay for tuition because college is so expensive nowadays,” Aldape reflected.

Organizers are already looking forward to next year’s celebration.
