Kurkov: The Conflict Might Change Ukraine’s Political Landscape

Andrii Kurkov has highlighted that Ukraine’s current struggles in the war stem from inadequate political policies established by earlier generations. He commented during discussions on Ukraine’s independence anniversary, emphasizing that many Ukrainians have historically voted based on charisma rather than solid political proposals.

Kurkov believes this conflict will transform the political culture in Ukraine, making citizens more demanding of their leaders. He noted that the sacrifices being made now reflect the failure of early 1990s politicians to build a robust, independent state. Instead of ideologically driven competition, Ukraine has seen a rise in populism, where figures cater to voters without a strong foundational vision. Kurkov expresses hope that the ongoing war will ultimately reshape Ukraine’s political landscape for the better.
