Social media, particularly Facebook, has proven helpful in reconnecting pets with their owners.
Olson notes that the department serves most communities in Grundy County and primarily focuses on cats and dogs. They also accept owner surrenders when space allows, often due to owners’ health issues or moves to care facilities.
While dogs are popular, the department observes a higher rate of cat adoptions. They have also cared for a variety of unusual animals, including potbellied pigs and snakes. Residents have the option to sponsor adoption fees for animals in need of homes.
