Chinese Premier Li Qiang has expressed a commitment to enhancing collaboration with Qatar in areas such as energy, investment, artificial intelligence, and diplomatic initiatives aimed at mitigating tensions in the Middle East. This statement was made during a meeting with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, who is on a two-day official visit to China intended to strengthen bilateral relations.
Li’s remarks come at a time when both nations are navigating a turbulent regional security landscape, particularly with regards to the Strait of Hormuz, which is critical for energy imports and exports for both China and Qatar. Iran has mentioned ongoing discussions with Oman about establishing a temporary safe passage through this strait, with developments expected to be submitted to the International Maritime Organization soon. Additionally, Iran confirmed that a recent visit from a Qatari delegation was part of regional de-escalation efforts.
Li emphasized China’s readiness to foster better communication and cooperation with Qatar in various fields.
