Invoke Studios has chosen a warlock protagonist for Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons, emphasizing the importance of “creative magic” in both gameplay and storytelling. Studio head Dominic Guay explained that the decision was driven by the team’s desire to explore a magic user class, which they felt would offer intriguing narrative possibilities.
Kaatri, the main character, has a unique relationship with an ancient witch named Tasha, presenting challenges of power negotiation between a warlock and their patron. Guay acknowledged the complexities of developing the game’s magic system, stating that while they wanted to allow for player creativity, managing the scope of the spells and abilities was no small task.
Although discussions about exploring other D&D classes have arisen, Guay indicated a focus on the warlock for now, expressing excitement for the creative opportunities this class provides. Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons is set to launch in 2027 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
