LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Two entertainment shows in Las Vegas are set to close, resulting in job losses for hundreds of workers. The Mad Apple show will conclude on September 5, while Awakening will close its doors on October 10.
Production Challenges
Jana Wimer, Producer and Director at the Vegas Theater Company, emphasized the challenges of producing large-scale theater productions, noting that Awakening has nearly 200 cast and crew members. She mentioned that managing payroll and marketing represents a significant portion of production expenses.
The Importance of Audience Attendance
Wimer pointed out that the success of a show heavily relies on audience attendance. She remarked on the unpredictability of a show’s performance, stating that even the best productions need effective promotion to attract ticket buyers.

For instance, Joa Camila Cuellar, visiting from Spain, expressed a preference for outdoor activities like hiking at the Grand Canyon over attending shows.
